CIBC Caribbean has named Julie Charles, well-known host of Mind, Body & Soul on Freedom FM, as the first runner-up in its 2025 Unsung Hero awards, recognizing her steadfast advocacy for victims of domestic violence and her longstanding community outreach.
At a special recognition ceremony held at the CIBC bank at The Circus in Basseterre, Charles was honored alongside winner Venetta Zakers for making a meaningful impact behind the scenes in the lives of many.
Julie Charles, a resident of St. Peter’s, was lauded for her founding of the Big Sister Program in 2004. The initiative helps survivors of domestic violence navigate social services and provides emotional support through mentorship and motivational speaking. Over the years, Charles has become a trusted voice on issues affecting vulnerable women and families, using her radio platform to educate and empower.
In recognition of her contributions, Ms. Charles received EC$6,750 from CIBC Caribbean to support her ongoing work.
“Venetta and Julie exemplify the spirit of the Unsung Heroes program,” said CIBC Country Head, Eberna Whyte. “Their selfless efforts to uplift the most vulnerable in our society are a testament to the power of community action and true passion for people.”
The event, hosted by Sharon Rattan, brought together corporate partners, media representatives, and members of the community. It also marked the beginning of a new CIBC Caribbean campaign to highlight hidden heroes across the region.
While Julie Charles may not seek recognition, her consistent commitment to healing and advocacy, both on and off the airwaves, continues to make a lasting difference in the Federation.
