Former People’s Action Movement Treasurer, Attorney Chesley Hamilton speaking on Freedom Fm’s Issues on Thursday says when it comes to getting access to Ministers of Government, the Team Unity modus operandi is to have a structure where one goes through the process before intervention by relevant Minister or Prime Minister.
Hamilton indicated however there is a culture where Ministers have been successful to people’s concerns.
He said structures won’t work where you have this culture in full effect over the past 10 years. Hamilton suggested that the Former Prime Minister Douglas knew this culture well and worked it to the satisfaction of his supporters and nationals.
Hamilton indicated that Douglas used Senators Nigel Carty & Ricky Skerritt and Press Secretary Erasmus Williams as functionaries who assisted the public in a variety of ways.
Hamilton maintained that it was because of the appointment of two senators in cabinet, it led to a situation where there was no Deputy Speaker.
But that was the former Prime Minister’s response to the reality on the ground.
Hamilton advised Team Unity to put such structures in place to deal with both Governmental and Constituency situations.
