January 29, 2016 in National

BuckleysRiot-1The Buckley’s Uprising of 28th January 1935 at Buckley’s Estate St Kitts, is one of the most defining moments in our country’s history, in terms of advancing the social, political and economic betterment of nationals.

81 years ago workers on estates finally took a stand against colonialism in all its forms no longer willing to accept the status quo of imprisonment and social injustice.

Three men Joseph Samuel, John Allen and James Archibald lost their lives when the militia and police fired into the crowd killing them instantly, while 9 others were injured.

On Freedom Fm’s issues on Thursday, host Juni Liburd recapped what happened on that historic day in St. Kitts.

Callers to Freedom Fm also shared in the tribute to the Buckley’s martyrs and recalled the role played by these brave men and women of St. Kitts.
