ACP Queeley says Crime too high calls for Dialogue with Gangs

February 04, 2016 in National

Ian Queeley-1ACP with responsibility for crime while speaking on the government’s weekly information radio program “Working for You” on Wednesday said the nation was facing a crisis in relation to crime in St. Kitts-Nevis.

Queeley said in January alone there were 7 attempted murders and 6 murders.

Queeley called for community collaboration in the fight, because “although we are mandated by the law, as the primary law enforcing agency taking the lead” he called on all stakeholders in the community to come on board now; “if we are to take back the streets”.

Queeley said as a result of the spiraling gun related criminal activities, the high command had put in place a number of crime fighting initiatives for the security forces to maximize resources in order to curtail crime.

ACP Queeley said the high command had also written to government to enact legislation and stiffer penalties to send a message to the criminals.

ACP Queeley issued a warning to the gangs to tone down their activities and to enter in dialogue with the high command, as going down this road would not benefit themselves or the country.

Queeley reiterated that the incidents of robberies and murders were too high in a small country like St. Kitts-Nevis.
