Four other Caribbean countries were shaken by 8 smaller quakes between Wednesday night and Thursday, as the death toll from Haiti’s 5.9 October 6th quake reached 17.
The US Geological Survey reported quakes ranging between 2.8 to 3.4 occurred in the British Virgin Islands, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The latest, according to the USGS, occurred in San Antonio, Puerto Rico at around 10:32 a.m. on Thursday morning and measured 3.2 on the Richter scale. This was preceded by a 2.5 quake in Isabela, Puerto Rico around 10:25 a.m. local time.
At 10:10 a.m. Thursday, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic was shaken by a 3.0 quake while Charlotte Amalie in the U.S. Virgin Islands was shaken by a 2.6 quake around 6:14 a.m. Thursday morning.
The USGS also recorded a 2.8 event in Punta Cana around 1:59 a.m. and a quake of the same magnitude in the Boca de Yuma area of the DR around 10:32 p.m. Wednesday night, Oct. 10th.
That was preceded by a 3.2 quake in the same area minutes earlier, an hour earlier, around 9:29 p.m. on Wednesday night.
The USGS also said a 3.4 quake shook Road Town, British Virgin Islands around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening, local time.
The USGS has been reporting several small quakes rattling these nations all week along with aftershocks in Haiti as officials there tallied the injured from Saturday’s quake at 333 and the number of buildings damaged to over 7,400.
