The three men held in connection with the country’s latest homicide have been charged with aggravated robbery and the capital offence of murder.

Shane Buckley of the Point, Corey Mills of Clare Hall and Ian Daniel of Skerritts Pasture are scheduled to appear before Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh in the St John’s Magistrates’ Court this morning.

The men are accused of shooting dead 38-year-old Mazem Daher at his Old Parham Road fast food restaurant on Saturday at about 11:30 pm.

Lawmen credit the assistance of the public and the closed circuit television footage of the robbery for the swift arrest and subsequent charges laid against the trio.

Police reports indicate that two men – one dressed in a black shirt and a pair of long blue jeans with his face concealed, and one wearing a red hoodie and long blue jeans – entered the restaurant and robbed Daher of an unknown sum of money.

The restaurateur was fatally shot in the process.

Daher was discovered lying on the floor of the restaurant with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was officially pronounced dead on the scene at around 2am Sunday morning.

On Sunday, police detained Mills and Daniel for questioning and Buckley was taken into custody on Monday.

Members of the local Syrian community are mourning the loss of one of their own and spent three consecutive nights, as is customary, paying respects to Daher’s only immediate relative residing in Antigua, a nephew.
