The Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College elects a new Faculty Representative

March 20, 2017 in National

On Friday 17 March 2017, lecturers at the CFBC voted to elect a member of their faculty to serve on the CFBC Board of Governors.

There were two nominated candidates, namely Mr. Glenroy Blanchette and Mr. Percy Randolph Taylor.

After the votes were counted, Glenroy Blanchette was declared the winner having received the overwhelming majority of the votes cast.

Blanchette received 33 or 80.5 % of the votes, while Taylor received just 7 votes.

In January of last year, Blanchette was elected as the Faculty Rep but the Minister refused to issue the instrument of appointment.

This was contrary to the CFBC Act of 2008 which stipulates that one full-time member of the academic staff shall be appointed by the Minister on the advice and consent of Cabinet.

The Act also requires the Minister to submit names of proposed Board members to Cabinet within 30 days but a full year had passed without Blanchette receiving his appointment.
