St.Kitts-Nevis Diplomat Jacinth Henry-Martin Takes Up New Appointment

New Chief of Staff to OAS Secretary-GeneraSt.Kitts-Nevis ‎Ambassador to the USA/Permanent Representative to the OAS, Ambassador to Mexico and Paraguay Her Excellency Jacinth Henry-Martin has been named the new Chief of Staff to OAS Secretary-General Luis Almagro.

The Federation of St. Kitts – Nevis is high in praise on commendation following the appointment of former St. Kitts – Nevis Ambassador, Ms. Jacinth Henry Martin to the post of Chief of Staff to the Organistaion of American States (OAS) by its incoming Secretary General Luis Almargo.

In an announcement made via twitter Luis Almagro, the incoming Secretary General of the OAS said “I am Happy to Announce Ambassador Jacinth Henry-Martin as my Chief of Staff as of 05-26” Almagro replaces Jose Miguel Insulza on May 25, and will serve a five-year term.
Martin will be the first Caribbean Woman to hold that position.

Ms. Henry Martin is a former St. Kitts – Nevis Government Minister, who was elected in a St. Kitts – Nevis Labour Party ticket in March 2000, and went on to become Minister of Information, Youth, Culture and Sports. She also served as the Director General of Carifesta VII in 2000.

In 2005 she was appointed High Commissioner at the SKN Embassy in London, a position she held until 2008. In 2011, she served as Ambassador to the USA until her resignation 2015 following general elections, which saw a change of government in St. Kitts – Nevis.

Jacinth Henry Martin was born in Sandy Point, St. Kitts and is an avid cultural, educational and administrative icon. She is fluent in 3 languages and has written may poems, stories and calypsos culminating with her capture of Calypso Queen title in the annual Carnival competition.

On Freedom FM “Issues” on Wednesday nationals called in from home and abroad to this grassroots champion of the arts form and of women’s empowerment: Ms Jacinth Henry Martin.
