Murder over $80

DARYELL Artley, the man who earlier this month allegedly lit Michael Victor on fire during a dispute over $80, has been charged with the offence of murder.

On Friday, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service tweeted that Artley was initially charged with causing grievous bodily harm. That charge was laid before Victor died.

The new charge of murder was to be laid after the TTPS received advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the tweet stated.

Artley, 24, of Akal Trace, appeared in the Port of Spain Magistrates’ court on the initial charge and the case was postponed to August 3.

It is likely that when he reappears in court that the murder charge will be read to him by the magistrate.

On July 4, Victor was doused with what police believe was kerosene. The killer lit the flame with a match.

He died three days later at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
