Foreign Affairs Minister Brantley Unfamiliar with US Threat to St Lucia on Deportees

Foreign Affairs Federal Minister Honorable Mark Brantley says he is unaware and reluctant to comment on a CMC story where St Lucian Prime Minister Alan Chastanet says the US has threatened St. Lucia to accept Nationals deported from the US.

Chastanet told reporters that Castries was told that if it did not accept the deported, travel for locals would be “pulled”.

Chastanet indicated to Washington that while he is not pleased with the threat, he would however honor the current system.

Brantley however pointed out that there is a system in place for that for decades for the Caribbean and other International Countries “but the question as to some kind of threat is the question that I am unfamiliar with and have no knowledge” insisted Brantley.

Brantley commented further that he would have to inform himself of this development and check in with fellow Foreign Affairs Ministers in Caricom, with whom he had a close association.
