October 17, 2017 in National

The quick response from the Basseterre Fire Services confirmed a fire that broke out upstairs the Ashburry building from spreading and creating further damage. At 5:45 Tuesday morning, the fire department responded to a fire, seen upstairs the former Circus Grill Restaurant now known as Lemon Grass.

Freedom Fm spoke to Fire Chief Everette O’Garro who confirmed that the fire was located in an office upstairs the Ashburry’s store, which quickly spread to the roof of the building. O’Garro reported that the firemen soon had the fire under control, although the contents in the office were destroyed and minimal water and smoke damage to a photo studio adjacent to the Ashburry’s administrative office.

O’Garro told our Newsdesk that arson was not suspected and felt there was a possible electrical malfunction which sparked the fire.

Ashburry’s store suffered heavy water damage as the flames were being extinguished.
