In an exclusive interview with Freedom Fm on Monday, Minister of Education Honorable Shawn revealed that the site for the new BHS is the Basseterre water aquifer.

Richards pointed out that 5 sites were originally being considered. The final decision was taken to build the school there after a panel of experts commissioned by Cabinet, resulted in that site being chosen.

Richards said the site for the BHS was environmentally friendly and would be free of sewage contamination. He said experts from St Kitts including water engineers along with Dr Sahely gave their expert advice and suggestions on having the school built there.

There were several sites which were being considered for the new Basseterre High School and a number of factors were looked at in all of the different sites which were in consideration. In regards to the Basseterre Aquifer area over in the Pond’s Extension area, of course the decision was taken to build the school there. What I can say to you though is that prior to the Government the Cabinet made that decision. We had a panel of water experts who were commissioned to look at that particular site and to make recommendations as to how to ensure that there is little or no contamination. That committee spent quite a long time and provided the Cabinet with expert advice and it is based upon that expert advice that the decision was taken. The decision was taken to make sure that there is no sewage on the site so that the sewage would be offsite.

Freedom Fm also called Works Minister and parl rep for the area Ian Patches Liburd who could not be reached for comment.
