BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TEAM St. Kitts-Nevis which participated in the FIVB World Cup Volleyball Qualifiers has won the Group D category after pulling off impressive wins over the weekend.
The “Sugar Girls” dominated the two-day encounter that was held in St. Kitts from July 27-28 and were undefeated without losing any sets.
Their win helps to move them closer to the 2014 World Cup Volleyball Championship Tournament.
The FIVB World Cup 2014 group D qualifier that was held at the Marriott Dome included visitors Bermuda, St. Maarten and Anguilla.
The top three teams qualified to the participate in the second round and the home team did so while leading the pack.
In a previous release Coach Steadroy Collins of team St. Kitts/Nevis stated that they would deliver on a promise to win the group.
“The ladies are confident, I wouldn’t say super confident, but very confident that we can win this tournament. Instead of training the team had a special gathering and I was able to judge their state of readiness, so I think we are ready both mentally and physically,” he said.
The members of Team SKN are Antoinette Henry (captain & Outside hitter), Brenda Allen (Outside and Middle attack), Phyllis Elliott (Weak side attacker), Diana Palmer (Setter), Gennelle Howell (Libero), Shanecia Dyer (Outside and Middle attack) Andrea Liburd (Middle attack) and Tomeka Richards (Outside and Weak side attack).
The team is said to have a blend of youth and experience as Howell and Richards are playing for the first time while the other members of the team have a collective experience of over 50 years.
